Android 2.2 Froyo on HTC Desire
Posted by: Asselberghs // Category: Android, Cellphones, technology, tutorialHi again guys:)
So yesterday I finally got Android 2.2 Froyo on my phone and it´s awsome:)
Now I want to tell you what I did, so you can follow suit if you would wish.
Bear in mind, this is stock Android 2.2 like the Nexus One there is no HTC Sense in this rom even though HTC has finished porting Sense to Android 2.2 I did this because I wanted a Nexus One experience and I don´t care much for HTC´s Sense design.
The first link I found that started all this was this little forum post here on this link: Download this Radio version
While your there just download the Radio version you´ll need it later on. Theres a bunch of links at the buttom of the post amoung them are the Radio download.
It told me to do Clockwork mod recovery installation, which I already did because my phone was rooted through unRevoked 3. And thus if you want to have Android 2.2 or play around with other ROMs for that matter you phone must be rooted. So that was out of the way:)
Then I did a Nandroid backup through the Recovery console which is, when you have your device rooted the Clockwork recovery mod or something like that. I diden´t need it though, but cyanogen recommended me to do it so I will do the same to you.
You should make sure your phone is already fully powered up or have it plugged into a power outlet, you don´t want your phone to die out from an empty battery not during the backup procedure nor during the flashing procedures, that could be fatal to your phone. And remember when Rooting you´ve already voided warrenty.
You shut down your phone, then start it agin, but having a finger hold down on power button and one holding down on volume down. This will get you into the standard “boot/bios menu” whatever, it´s standard booting menu with some options provided by HTC or is it the Android OS? anyway
Then you manuver down to recovery and select that. IIRC you manuver up and down with volume buttoms and select by pressing the power buttom.
Now it will reboot into the Clockwork mod, which have the look of green text on black background.
Now I rely solely on my memory, which in general is not a good thing, but I can´t look it up. You have to find Nandroid backup, my guess is theres a nandroid backup or just nandroid menu option, select it and ask to take a backup to your SD card. Shoulden´t be that hard to find, now your in Clockwork mod, so see if you can find it, and you have to make a backup.
You could ofc. if you have it use Titanium Backup to do a backup of you phone, just as long as you have one.
Okay so now you follow the link right here:
Flashing the Radio guide
And scroll down to Flashing the Radio just use the radio download you downloaded earlier from the other side, I don´t think theres a version difference, but better be safe that was the order I did it in, and it works, so take the radio download from the other site but follow the guide lines.
When you´ve flashed the radio (that went quick for me:)) boot up into your phone and follow the first method of flashing the rom: Flashing CyanogenMod right below the flashing of the Radio on that Wiki guide.
The Mod flashing for CyanogenMod can take a bit more time but just be patient, it will wake up actually it will reboot when it´s ready IIRC and you´ll be booting into an Android 2.2 FroYo rom.
Congratulations you´ve now got Android 2.2 Froyo on your phone.
See you with a guide when Android 3.0 Gingerbread is released.
When you´ve got Android 2.2 Froyo the Market Enabler I mentioned in rooting the HTC Desire will not work for you. It refused to install.
So if you update, and you are in a country without access to paid apps you´ll need another Market Enabler version.
It seems it´s a Legacy version or something, something older at least, why it would work I do not know, but I have it and it works. Follow this link and install it. It will ask you if you are sure, yea you are sure, because it works in Froyo:)
