Hi Readers:)

I am going to take you down a short piece of memory road to tell you about how I am trying to improve my memory, what I am doing to accomplish this, how it all came about and request of you dear readers that if you find any hidden gems and obtain knowledge if you start your own journey to find out more about memory that you please share it by commenting, both with me but also with other readers of my blog.

My Background:

I have all my life struggled with memory I have always been bad at recalling anything from vacations, to what I´d done yesterday or the day before that, even events that should have been significant and special enough for it to stand clear in my mind have been vanishing it´s always been my most significant problem. I have tried to improve this all my life with different methods of remembering, mostly using external tools, and at the moment aside from my training myself in memory palace technique I use my Android´s calendar and services like Evernote to remember and Smugmug to store photos from vacations so I can recall them. My lack of memory has been my biggest disadvantage in life and now I am determined to learn all I can of the Memory Palace, I want to master my memory with this technique I have seen improvement and I know I can improve alot more if I can learn Memory Palace technique fully.

The Beginning:

I am a TV Series fanatic you properly know that already. I am a big fan of Doctor Who and also of Sherlock both these shows have Steven Moffat writing for them, he´s excellent at coming up with story archs:)
I discovered the concept of the Memory Palace which this post is about, through the Sherlock show, more precisely in Season 2´s episode: The Hounds of Baskerville.
Ofcourse the representation of the Memory Palace in Sherlock was visually improved to be impressive but it struck me that this would be cool if it was in fact a real technique to improve onces memory.
A quick Google search revealed that this was a very old but still useful memory technique that had been about for many many decades.
The website explained to me how to construct and use a memory palace.
Going with this information and testing it over a couple of occasions proved to me it´s usefulness and I have been using this primarily to remember anything important backed up by my electronic calendars and services like evernote ofcourse.

How the Memory Palace works:

First you have to construct your Memory Palace, it works best if it´s a place your intimately familiar with, I used my house which I´ve lived in for 25 years.
You have to dial up your concentration, shut anything out that could be a distraction and take as much in as you can visually, now walk a path around your house to take everything in and cover as much as you can in a walking route.
You have to do this enough that you can mentally walk through your house and picture it as perfectly as possible. Repeat this until you have a crystal clear memory tour of your house in your head that you can call up at will.
This is now your Memory Palace.
What I am doing at the moment then is walking through my memory palace and engraving numbers, words or what not into surfaces in my house, either with an imaginary spray can or with a handheld burner for engraving stuff into wood, that could be a couple of wooden table surfaces in the kitchen, dining table, spraying on the sofa, or in my room over table or storage surfaces or maybe a poster. I am reading in the book I read, that visual association to what you need to remember might be more engaging and a better way to memorize than what I do, presumably the more absurd and special you make your associations according to the book, the more energy you put into creating and thus it gets easier to recall than just text put into your memory place holders.
Next time I take a trip to my memory palace, because I have put such an amount of concentration into putting the memory into places in my memory palace I can recall them upon my next visit to the Memory Palace.
My problem now is that I can only at present store one set of information at a time in my memory palace before I have to wipe it to make room for another set of information.
Well this is troublesome what good is godlike memory if it only works one at a time?
It´s not really, the book I read informs me that you have to have one Memory Palace per set of information you want to store and thus if you can create enough memory palaces you have in theory an infinite amount of memory storage.
My trouble here is you have to know your memory palace very very well to construct and hold it. Of course I know my home in over 20 years good and well, but how many other places can I do this with?I haven´t figured this out yet, I know I have to construct more Memory Palaces but which and how I am not sure yet, but it´s definitely cracked what to do to retain multiple sets of information.
I will return with more on this once I have something that works.
Or I would be happy to hear from you my reader, if you know how to do this, can you confirm? or tip on this or something?
Anyway I am currently studying for more tricks on the memory palace.
As I said I am reading on the Memory Palace to improve my technique and to figure out how to have multiple Memory Palaces.
It´s from the book that came the tip about constructing interesting associations as opposed to concrete words or numbers into the memory holders but this I haven´t tested yet.
The book I am reading right now on the topic is called Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything I find it quite good, at this moment it hasen´t helped me tremendously but I hope it will in the end, if nothing else it´s an entertaining read.
I will return with more on this topic and possibly a review of the book once I am done. I hope you find this post interesting and useful, if you decide to pick up the book let me know what you thought of it. And I hope you will comment if you have suggestions, improvements or questions about the topic of this post.
Until next time.

Kind Regards

Having been witness to Vincent’s brilliant imagination through several RP story arch’s it is no surprise to me that he can produce an awsome story.
To me it feels like a well constructed story line, meaning you have this adventure that in itself unfolds before our hero Brandon Taylor complete with twist and turns just like if I was sitting in one of his RP sessions. Underneath this there keep popping up questions you want answered, what is the Source exactly? how does it work? some stuff gets revealed and some does not. This leaves me with a, but will is see or hear about “insert unresolved stuff here” again? will I get to know more about this? Not “stopping” to answer all the questions keeps the adventure going at a good quick pace as is fit for a novella story and it leaves you with a “I need to know more” feeling which ensures you’ll come back for the next one. I will be looking out for the next tale of the Word Smith for sure.
I can’t help but hope for a full novel in the series at some point, that makes time to flesh out different kind of magic and the Source, although logically we might “only” see the magic of the Bards. Unless Corbin has more up his sleeve, as well as looks into the past to reveal more background on the characters.
Though this contradicts my interests a little bit as I hope for still more of his awsome stories in “private” within our RP group. I may have been a little greedy there, oh well I mean no harm.
I am excited to see the first in Tales of the Word Smith released and I hope for and am already looking forward to the next story.
Congratulations on your first release buddy, keep up the good work.
I know what a fantastic story teller you are as do the rest of our group, now it’s time for the rest of the world to see.
If this has peeked your interest follow the link below to buy it.

Greetings Readers:)

I am going to tell you a bit about Pinboard.in.
It was created by a guy called Maciej Ceglowski as he wasen´t quite satisfied with the way Yahoo ignored Delicious after they bought it, I left around that time too for the same reasons and thus Maciej created Pinboard.in.
Pinboard uses the Delicious API and it is very simmilar to Delicious back in it´s good days.
It´s a clean design with white background it´s functional and easy to navigate and search in just like delicious was.
It has a pricetag on it indeed but not more than you would pay for a lunch meal so hurry up and get it if you need an online bookmarking site, this is I believe, your best option.
And it´s a one time fee not a recurring monthly transaction.
The reason for you to hurry is that the price will increase a little bit with each new user that joins.
I am as you may have figured out by now very enthusiastic about this site, it´s not perfect but a very very good replacement for what Delicious was originally.
I miss a couple of things though, I miss being able to group a bunch of links into groups or collections, like links for job hunting for instance, it can be ordered through tagging of course but it would have been a nice addition.
Another thing is that when you search, you search by Title and content of the Description field not in the URL, though you can set it to show the URL of all the sites you add, but I have heard from the creator on the group for Pinboard i stumbled upon in the site, that indexing and matching the URL as well is in development.
I hope to have made you curious with this blog post and I think you should head over to website to see if it is for you.
If you´d like to hear a bit about it first and get an alternate opinion you can watch this recording of a TWiT show that speaks about Pinboard and has an interview with the creator of Pinboard.in
It´s in video and is hosted on Youtube the shows hosts are the Tech Guru Leo Laporte and the host of the now “depricated” shows net@night Amber McArthur (the show still lives but under the name the Social Hour)

Enjoy Pinboard.in

Kind Regards

You´ve heard me talking about the Dresden Files before on my blog.
Up until fairly recently I was convinced I would never find a series or an author to match the epicness of Jim Butcher´s Dresden Files.
That was until my friend recommended I should read Kevin Hearne´s Iron Druid Chronicles.
Thanks Vince I am grateful:)
Btw you guys should head over and check his blog Kalan´s Ramblings
I got to reading them it´s 3 books up until now with the fourth on it´s way very soon, and they are awsome to me they are just as good as Harry´s adventures in the Dresden Files.
So now I have two releases a year to look forward to.
So who is the Iron Druid and what is the series about?
I´ll introduce you to Atticus by means of me talking about him and quoting a bit from the book.
His name is Siodhachan Ó Suileabháin but he goes by the name Atticus O´Sullivan and he refers to himself as Atticus in the book, only the gods sometimes call him Siodhachan.
In the book he tells us the following:
When people ask how old I am, I just tell them twenty-one, and if they assume I mean years instead of decades or centuries, then that can´t be my fault can it?
He´s an Irish lad living and working in Tempede, Arizona, USA.
He´s got red hair, and beard, a young mans beard of course not old pointy hat wizards beard, part of his body is covered in alot of tatoos of Celtic Knotwork, it works as a conduit of sort for his Druidic powers, which comes partly from within and partly from the earth.
He owns a Occult Bookshop from where he both sells genuine magic tomes and fake works he uses as he puts it “to part idiots from their money”
He also brews teas with magical properties for the locals sort of magicals “pick-me-ups” nothing extrodinary or superhuman.
He has a dog, his name is Oberon, he´s a big grey Wolfhound, oh and he talks, or at least he talks to Atticus in his mind via a telepatic link as well as talking with the gods that stops by once in a while.
He´s got friends as well, the Widow MacDonaugh who´s lawn he mows and sits and talks to once in a while.
His afformentioned dog Oberon of course.
His lawyers Leif Helgarson and Hal Hauk who are a Vampire and Warewolf respectively.
He often deals with gods of Celtic mythology. He is for instance hunted by Aengus Óg the Celtic god of Love of the Tuatha Dé Danann (the Irish gods) who lives in Tír na nÓg the land of ethernal youth, the land of the gods.
He also deals with witches and other magical folk.
The story is told from the perspective of Atticus, Atticus is our narrator just like Dresden is in the Dresden Files.
It is ofcourse another story but it is well told, it´s urban fantasy which is an awsome genre.
The humor may not be as brilliant as in Dreden Files but the story itself is on par with the Dresden Files Case Files.
If you like the Urban Fantasy genre you cannot miss Kevin Hearnes Iron Druid Chronicles.

Kind Regards

So my main website www.Asselberghs.dk have been undergoing some updates lately. I have added two new databases, programmed in PHP with MySQL database, intended for friends to be able to see what I have in store of Movies and Games, those are the main updates, as it is intended for friends mainly, and many of those are Danes, and the fact that it would be impractical anyway for any friends overseas to stop by and loan a movie or a game for these reasons the sections are in Danish but the programming code (Variables, Database Tables and such) are in English as to make it more accessable to people that want to implement my code and use it.
I will soon release the source code for these projects for others to use freely if they want something similar, personally I tend to forget if I lend somebody something, not anymore with these new additions to my site:) but thats not the only thing new.
Having seen Superbowl 46 the night between yesterday and today, what a beautiful and intense match and epic result btw, well I got into Superbowl mood and I wanted a NY Giants theme, got to show who I support don´t I? Anyway I have got the new theme installed all across the main site, and installed a “theme switcher” as well so you can select between my New York Giants my Fire and my Ice theme. My databases only uses the Fire theme and I do not intend to install a theme switcher there, I might change the theme all at once but I see no need of maintaining 3 times the code for the project just to have theme selection.
Thats what I´ve been up to lately.
See you later.

Kind Regards

I have awaited the followup to How to Succeed in Evil by +Patrick McLean called Hostile Takeover for a bit now. So I was surprised and very happy to see Consultation with a Vampire turn up. As far as I can tell it’s set somewhere between a little after the case with Steven Grapewigget/Brainatar and the events of HtSiE.
First thing that comes into mind when I was reading it, It’s freaking awsome getting into the head of Topper.
I think Edwin is awsome and truth be told I was a little nervous if I actually would enjoy shifting into the mind of Topper as is going to happen with Hostile Takeover. Concern is set aside, I love it:D he’s agressive, full of steam when he needs to be and his, I do what I want to do when I want it attitude, is cool:)
Also the rendering of the Vampires was fantastic and seemed “original” if such a thing can be said about a fictive creature, and they seemed real. I have become sick and tired of the Vampire types in things like Twilight and Vampire Diaries.
In one of my favorite book series The Dresden Files there’s alot of Vampire types. And while the Dracula kind exist in the universe it’s seldom seen in the books. So it was nice going back to the original blood sucking Dracula type in this one:)
How to Succeed in Evil: Consultation with a Vampire is fantastic you should get it:) (just follow the link under Source) it can be read I think before How To Succeed in Evil but it’s not needed to. You should pick this one up even if you haven’t read the original/”First”, and then you should go get How to Succeed in Evil at once:)! Can’t wait for Hostile Takeover and to get back into the head of Topper Haggleblat.:D
